WHAT IS KIWANIS?

Kiwanis is a world-wide service organization of individuals who want to improve their communities. As a group, they can achieve what they cannot do alone.

These men and women attend Kiwanis club meetings for fellowship and inspiration. They perform voluntary community service through committees . . .usually after hours.

Kiwanis is not a social club nor a secret or political society. It does not prescribe a way of life for others. It often does, however, act as a forum for diverse ideas.

WHAT DOES KIWANIS DO?

It performs service beyond the capability of the individual: assistance to the aging, the needy, and to youth; improvement of communities; encouragement of international understanding.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Individuals of good standing in the community -- invited by the Kiwanis Club, itself. The cost is low, considering the tremendous satisfaction Kiwanis membership provides.

HISTORY

The first Kiwanis club was organized in Detroit, Michigan, USA on January 21, 1915. A year later the Kiwanis Club of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, was chartered, and Kiwanis International grew rapidly into a leading service club in these two founding nations. In 1962, worldwide expansion was approved, and today Kiwanis clubs are active in every part of the world.

NUMBER OF CLUBS AND MEMBERS

There are more than 8,400 Kiwanis clubs with nearly 280,000 members in more than 96 nations and geographic areas. The International President has made a goal for the Kiwanis International to have 1,000,000 members by 2015.

TYPE OF MEMBERSHIP

Active or retired business and professional men and women.
